Ask a consultation question →It depends on the actual capital contribution: under VND 3 billion → DT4; VND 3–50 billion → DT3; VND 50–100 billion → DT2; VND 100 billion or more, or investment in an incentivized sector → DT1. Yes — under the regulations, an investor visa is issued to both the direct investor and the representative of a foreign organization investing in Vietnam. The visa type (DT1–DT4) is determined by the capital contribution scale of the organization the person represents.
Citizens of 13 countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Russia, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Belarus) are granted a unilateral visa exemption by Vietnam with a stay of 45 days per entry. However, if the investor wishes to stay longer or needs to confirm formal investor status, it is still advisable to apply for a DT visa or a temporary residence card.
The DT1 and DT2 visas are valid for up to 05 years — not automatically 5 years; the issuing authority decides the specific term. When the visa expires, the investor must carry out a renewal or new issuance procedure. If the investment scale is already eligible, converting to a long-term temporary residence card may be considered for greater convenience.
A new visa can be issued right in Vietnam while residing temporarily (Article 19 of the Law on Immigration). A sponsoring agency or organization in Vietnam must send the request together with the passport to the Immigration Department. Processing time is 05 working days. However, the tourist visa must remain valid throughout the processing period to avoid breaching the residence rules.
